Why São Paulo?
So why did we chose this massive city to minister in?
God's leading. We simply love serving here. It is a blessing to serve in a city you already feel so connected. We also know the churches around the city very well and we have a great ABWE field team here.
We are "PAULISTANOS" - both Odir and Cynthia were raised in this city.
Isn’t são Paulo a “already reached” place for the gospel?
São Paulo is a city “already reached” in the sense that many have access to the Bible and a church is usually not far away from anyone’s home. However, there are still so much gospel and ministry work to do in Brazil, especially in a big city like São Paulo.
São Paulo is full of theological confusion. While Catholicism is still the main religion, the neo-Pentecostal movement is huge and constantly growing. It’s not hard to meet lots of people that go to church and even people that affirm that they are “evangelical”, but the teaching that they are getting include a health wealth gospel and more. We have a heart for discipleship and mentoring and our desire is to build strong and sound doctrine local churches.
The people of SÃO PAULO STILL NEED TO
HEAR ABOUT JESUS AND
BE GROUNDED iN THE TRUE MESSAGE
OF SALVATION AND BIBLICAL DISCIPLESHIP.
“To call São Paulo a city is to sell it short. It’s a megalopolis, with 21 million inhabitants living in its metropolitan area. It’s a city of superlatives: the largest city in South America; the financial and cultural capital of Brazil. São Paulo is home to people from all over Brazil and the world. The city is often stigmatized as being a concrete jungle thanks to its expanse of high-rise buildings. Spend a day roaming its streets, though, and it will reveal surprises that blow the grey stereotype right out of the water. ”
