Our Passion
Odir's goal is to serve and assist in local churches where the Brazilian pastor is alone in ministry or not able to work full-time in ministry and to help them to build a pastoral team to better equip the church. Odir loves preaching the Word of God. Our vision is to reach the lost and equip local churches across São Paulo by using preaching and teaching as our primary ministry. Cynthia’s passion includes teaching children and women’s ministries.
Together we also have a heart for premarital and marriage counseling, and training youth leadership. We also love to challenge, disciple and counsel young adults through camping ministries, small groups and more.
Where are we serving
Currently we are dividing our ministry time between two different local churches. The reason for that is because we have a good partnership with both Brazilian Pastors in these churches, and they both have full-time jobs outside of the church with different needs in which we can serve and help them.
Read more about these two churches below.
Good News Baptist Church (Igreja Batista Boas Novas):
a revitalization ministry
This is a local church on the outer suburbs of São Paulo, in a smaller city called Diadema. While we were on furlough in the States in 2020, this church communicated to us that their pastor resigned, whom had been pastoring this church since the beginning more than 25 years ago. The resignation of their former pastor unfortunately also made many people leave the church, bringing the attendance to about 15 people. We arrived in São Paulo to serve primarily at GNBC in September 2020.
We praise the Lord for His work in this local church. By His grace, we were able to help the church to heal from their wounds from the past and to grow in forgiveness and spiritual maturity. Odir served alongside an interim Brazilian Pastor called Messias Santos and we guided the church towards voting and appointing this interim to become the lead pastor of the church.
Pastor Messias, the lead pastor, also works long hours daily at the Baptist Seminary of Sao Paulo. Odir is serving alongside him to reestablish the church, with responsibilities like preaching, teaching Sunday School and seeking opportunities to disciple and counsel. Some other responsibilities includes: restarting fresh ministries such as youth, ladies, prayer group, and equipping the church for evangelism in Diadema.
Plans for 2026-2030: get people well equipped and ready to serve in different new ministries; start an evangelism and discipleship center at the church to encourage outreach opportunities around the streets of Diadema. Expand the auditorium (right now it fits only about 80 people maximum, and we are almost reaching that number in attendance!).
New Life Baptist Church (Igreja Batista Vida Nova):
Leadership training and marriage counseling
From 2015 to 2017 we served in this church while they were still a church-plant ministry. At that time New Life was the newest church in our Regular Baptist Association movement, very well located in a metro area (renting the facility of the Baptist Seminary in the city, which they are still currently doing).
Odir served alongside a Brazilian Pastor called Wilson Rocha and helped organizing the church legally. Being very well located, the church grew quickly and now has about 150 people in attendance.
Later in 2022, we saw a need to return to this church to help in some specific areas (now dividing our ministry time between this church and Good News BC mentioned above). Since then, we started a new ministry for married couples. Also, we are heavily investing in discipleship and training of leaders, especially building a new leadership team for the youth and young adult ministry.
Odir also preaches regularly and sometimes we even do joint projects between New Life BC and Good News BC as sister churches (they are about 30 minutes apart only).
Plans for 2026-2030: Invest more in premarital and marriage counseling; expand more our one-a-one discipleship ministry; also, Cynthia has a challenge to encourage the women's ministry and to be a helper to the pastor's wife. This church does not have their own building yet - they rent the facility from the Baptist Seminary for the Sunday Services. On other days that the facility is not available, we do small groups in homes. We are praying together with them for the big goal of being financially able to purchase a property in the future! God is able!
